Sportsmen's Foundation for Military Families

The Williams family

Recently, I was presented with the opportunity of a gator hunt with Okeechobee Outfitters.  I am writing on behalf of their great services to say Thank You for all you do for our veterans.

I, myself, am an OEF veteran.  On my second tour overseas, I was leading a small team through dangerous territory when I stepped on an IED.  As a result of the explosion, I had both legs and my right arm amputated and several other internal injuries.  I am very lucky to be alive.  Though my life is full of struggles and obstacles I now must overcome, it is dedicated people like you that cause me to thrive to achieve my goals.

Growing up in the small town of Harrison, MT, hunting and the outdoors were my life.   I joined the military because it involved everything that I loved to do.  Not only that, but I could serve my country and be able to experience parts of the world I had never seen.  Though my military career was cut short, I will still go on to do great things.  I will never let my injuries stop me from being the person that I am.  Since the explosion in 2010, I have used the outdoors as my therapy to recover.  I take other wounded warriors on various hunts and show them the outdoors.  It gives them hope and something to look forward too.  Without the oppurtunities and support I was given during my recovery, I’m not sure where I’d be today so I feel it’s important to pass that along to others who will have to face some of the same battles as me.

The gator hunt with Okeechobee Outfitters was an experience that I will take with me for the rest of my life.  It was an honor to be in the company of such a caring and sincere staff.  The hunting and outdoor adventures went above and beyond my expectations.  The Sportsmen’s Foundation for Military Families allowed me to achieve one of my lifelong dreams and I am very greatful for that.  I met so many great people that quickly became friends.  This was an opportunity of a lifetime and The Sportsmen’s Foundation gave that to me.  Thank you for your support of this fantastic organization and thank you for being apart of my road to recovery.

Sincerely,

SSG Jack Williams
